Black Locust Trail

It was so gorgeous out yesterday that I had, HAD, to get out of the house and take advantage of the B-E-A-UTIFUL weather. I decided since this is race week, and I did a long run this Sunday that I would do light runs the rest of the week, workout with my trainer and maybe switch it up a bit. So yesterday, I decided it was gorgeous enough to take Sunny to Gambrill and pick a trail to hike. You know what I am good at? Hiking. Do you know what I am not good at? Paying really close attention to markers. I had looked at the map before hand, knew that I wanted to do the difficult level Black Locust Trail which was 3.3 miles and would bring me right back to the parking lot. Perfect. Well, mid way through I find that the Catoctin Mountain Trail and the Black Locust Trail are following each other most of the way – and I knew from the map that the Catoctin trail was only 3 miles. Stupid me decides that since Sunny is already panting, let’s just take the Catoctin trail. Rookie mistake that I have made before, in Spain. Should have learned then. I get to a point on the Catoctin trail that there is a map – showing me how the rest of the trail goes – do you know what it does? It keeps going, farther and farther away from the parking lot. Daggers. I had to back track to find the Black Locust trail. I did, and I followed it and then all of the sudden there stopped being signs for the Black Locust Trail and I was on the green trail. Omg! Will I ever get back to my car!? How many miles have I actually gone. It took 3 hours. Lots of rocks, lots of up hills. Sunny survived and I did too. Even stopped to get some pics along the way.

This is about the time I really wished this was a zip line. And that dogs could ride.

See? Holy steepness!
