I had a plan to blog pretty pictures every single day this week. But then it rained, all weekend, and 2 of my 3 shoots had to be postponed. So instead you get to hear about the exciting task of cleaning out the pantry. Yep. You are that lucky. I had been looking forward (so sad…engaged ladies, this is what your life comes to, being excited to clean out your pantry) to cleaning out the pantry for about 4 weeks now. I was purusing another friends blog and she posted over a year ago about cleaning out her pantry and ever since I re-read it about a month ago it has been on my to do list. I told myself I was not allowed to do it before I finished my taxes. Lucky for me, my tax prep is with the tax man and are out of my hands now, so today, I spent less than $20 at Walmart buying containers and bins to organize my pantry. I, of course, took pictures so you could totally understand the chaos I was getting myself into.
I want to start by saying, we have a lot of food. I blame Wegman’s. When they opened every week there was two items in this coupon pamphlet that you could get for free and whether we liked them or not, we always picked them up, thinking maybe we’ll use this one day. What made it worse is that other people would give us their coupons because they knew how obsessed we were with Wegman’s that they knew we needed them more than they did. So, things like salad dressing, basting oil, waffles, baby carrots would pile up – for some reason those were 4 of the frequently free things. I had no idea the extent of how much food I had until I removed it all from the pantry.
(I would like to mention that I wasn’t wearing my glasses or contacts when I took these, and I think some of them are blurry, and seriously, they are of my pantry so who cares, but let this be no reflection on anyones wedding photography as I know I have some new brides reading, thanks – management)
It had gotten to the point that I was literally just shoving stuff onto the shelves when I got back from the store just to not have it sit on the counter. The things I knew we had were all right in front of me. I had no idea some of the things we had buried – like udon noodles! I had no idea I had udon noodles! Or basmati rice!
There was only one casualty in the removal process – the basting oil….which I had two of anyway and honestly when am I ever going to use basting oil??
The contents filled the dining room table.
It’s like I have stock in tuna and green beans…I think the tuna was free though! See what I mean???
And this was the rest of the contents filling my kitchen cart.
So much crap!
Woohoo! After scrubbing this sucker down and cleaning the floor, it was time to re-organize.
Ta-da! May not look that different to you – but omg, this is amazing.
I think the baking section was the worst, I had 3 vanilla extracts – 3!! And 2 brownie mixes and 3 cake mixes and 3 frostings! Come on!
Can’t even talk about sauces – and yes, that yellow bottle really says hot dog sauce. I haven’t tried it yet. 🙂
No need to hunt through cans anymore! They are separated into soups and veggies! Yay!
Has spring cleaning started for all of you?? Tell me I was not the only one guilty of a messy pantry!
