How To Pick Flattering Dresses For Bridesmaids Of All Sizes

We’ve all heard horror stories of bridesmaids who end up looking less-than-glamorous due to the dress that was selected for them. The truth of the matter is, most brides are secure enough in their own appearance that they’re not focused on selecting dresses for their wedding party that will make them look less than their absolute best. Still, when you have a bridal party that comes in all kinds of sizes, it can be difficult to pick the kind that will flatter everyone. Here are a few tips that will help you to select bridesmaids dresses that will have your girls looking absolutely stunning on your wedding day.

Get the right foundation

People underestimate how much the right foundation underneath a dress can make or break a look. So, before you make any decisions, make sure all your bridesmaids get a professional bra fitting and that they wear a bra in their correct size while they’re trying on dresses.

Don’t settle for “toy soldiers”

Traditionally bridesmaids wear identical dresses, but it’s not completely necessary to follow this rule. Sometimes the best way to find a style that suits everyone is to not make them all wear the exact same one. Be open to considering dresses that may be the same color or length but has some other elements that compliment everyone’s individual body types.

Focus on the fabric

Occasionally it’s not the style of the dress but the kind of fabric that it’s made out of that can be the problem. Remember that you want to pick a dress that will complement their best features rather than accentuate their flaws. That’s why it’s a good idea to take a couple of girls along to try a few dresses that are made out of a variety of fabrics.

Choose a flattering hue

The color of the dresses you choose can also make your bridesmaids look more flattering. Make sure to go with something that compliments each bridesmaid’s complexion. And since it’s common for bridesmaids to pay for the costs of their own gowns, you should try to opt for shades they can wear to other formal functions. Deep blue, emerald green or earthy tones typically suit all complexions.

Let them have a say

Nothing says beauty quite like confidence. Wit that said, yes, it is your day and so you do have the final say in which dress you want your bridesmaids to wear, but it’s still a smart idea to take along a couple of bridesmaids to get their opinion. You definitely want them in the kind of dress that they will all feel good about throughout your wedding day.

Keep in mind that selecting dresses that will make your bridesmaids feel confident and happy will help make sure your wedding day is an unforgettable event. Plus, you want to be able to look back on your wedding photos for years to come to see you and your bridesmaids looking their very best. Happy shopping!
