Cats out of the bag!! I can finally tell you all that after looking for the past 3ish months and then making an offer and then closing just yesterday that WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!!!!! I am so crazy excited about this next step in our lives. It’s funny how when I was 15ish years old, I had this whole life plan of getting married and owning a home by 25, having my first child by 27 and how different that plan turns out to be. I like to think that 15 year old me would be happy that I waited to do a couple of those things because it just turns out so much better than I could have imagined then. This home, is our forever home. We have no intentions of moving from here until we are old and wrinkly just like the past owners were. Gosh, they were just so sweet…and 80. I have never gotten a bigger hug in my whole life than from the woman who lived in that home for the last 20 years. She told me today (when she came to pick up the last of her plants that are from the 1930s!) that she thinks this was all just meant to be. I couldn’t agree more. I also baked her cookies for her road trip down to North Carolina where they are moving.

Everyone I have spoken to has talked about how buying a house is so stressful. I like to think that this process was nearly perfect because of the awesome people I chose to work with. Alicyn Delzoppo has got to be the best real estate agent on the planet. Her and I went to high school together and she happens to be one of my favorite brides (come on April!). She not only is hysterical and a total jokster, with a totally kick ass personality and sense of humor, but she has got to be the smartest real estate agent out there. The way she went above and beyond to explain things to us when we had no clue what she was talking about or what the heck we were talking about sometimes, was awesome. I have walked away from this experience understanding the home buying process fully – at least as much as we needed to know. From explaining to us what a short sale was (for the first house we put an offer on and it wasn’t accepted) to sending detailed emails with instructions on what I need to do by when, she was the best. And she did it all while dealing with likely hundreds of other clients because that is just what she does. I swear this girl doesn’t actually sleep. People that sleep don’t have settlements every day.

Alicyn was also awesome to recommend Neil Bourdelaise at First Home Mortgage. Where the real estate end left off, Neil started with the finance explanations. I had no idea what ANY of what he was talking about meant in our first conversation and he took the time to walk me through everything on the phone and via email. He was speedy with his responses, helped me work out kinks when there were a few and made it a great experience. Even though I just gave him a shit ton of money. I did it willingly! And will for the next 30 years (but hopefully less because that makes me nauseous)!

So – I hope you all will follow along with our journey in being first time (and last time) homeowners. ย We have a hashtag going on instagram, not much there yet, but we hope to not annoy anyone with posts on instagram, facebook and here occasionally with before and afters and other adventures in home ownership! Ain’t she purty?

Brea - She is SO purty!!! I am so excited for you! Being a homeowner is amazing, but when you found your forever home, it’s even more amazing! I want to hug your sellers, they sound so freaking cute. I’m also thoroughly impressed that there are plants still alive from the 1930s. I can’t keep a plant alive for a week.
